Engineering Physics prepares students to apply physics to tackle 21st century engineering challenges, and to apply engineering to address 21st century questions in physics. Although Engineering Physics is a relatively new program at Stanford (it was introduced about a decade ago), it has a long history at a number of universities; see the list at The mission of the undergraduate program in Engineering Physics is to provide students with a strong foundation in physics and mathematics, together with engineering and problem-solving skills. All majors take high-level math and physics courses as well as engineering courses. This degree program prepares students for either an industrial career or further advanced degrees in applied physics, physics or engineering disciplines. Stanford undergraduates, regardless of undergraduate major, who are interested in a M.S. degree at the intersection of applied physics and engineering may choose to apply for the coterminal Master of Science program in Applied and … Completion of the undergraduate program in Engineering Physics leads to the conferral of the Bachelor of Science in Engineering. The subplan "Engineering Physics" appears on the transcript and on the diploma.

Designing and manufacturing everything from medical devices to jet engines, mechanical engineers are in demand in today’s society. Academics in Stanford’s Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) focus on preparing learners of all levels for hands-on roles in this expanding area of engineering. Eric Shaqfeh is the Lester Levi Carter Professor of Chemical Engineering at Stanford University. He earned a B.S.E. summa cum laude from Princeton University (1981), and a M.S. (1982) and Ph.D.
